Education
One of the key focus of Tichatonga Foundation has been education support and technology in education. In 1999 the Founder and Chairman of Portnet Corporation, Cliff Tichatonga Chafausipo initiated what was to become nationally adopted by the President of Zimbabwe, Robert Gabriel Mugabe as the National Schools Computerisation program. He donated computers to Mazowe High School to equip their new Computer Laboratory and he together with the then Minister of Education, went to do the same to Dadaya Secondary School. He then wrote a paper on the future of education and technology and presented it to The Late Dr Shamuyarira for discussion and adoption at National Level.
In 2012, Portnet Trust was to co fund an eLearning pilot project being driven by Government through the Ministry of Education putting base stations at ZRP, Parirewa and Chogugudza Primary Schools for the pilot. Portnet Partnered Sigma Byte an International Company and ZARNET a local wholly owned Ministry of ICT company in Zimbabwe. The President officially opened this pilot at Chogugudza Primary School.
The provision of books to Rural Schools has always been and still is a core element of the Foundation through Portnet Private Limited. Bigdale Primary School, Mucherengi Primary School and Chikwirandaombera Primary School, Rishworth House and Blue Waters High School are among the many beneficiaries.
